New boxes and pricing

The pricing for the DoggYO’s has been decided by many factors.
Going pricing of non-meat or very little meat biscuits I am keeping the same price point.
Where $15 and $25 per half pound is the going prices for flour based, non-meat craft biscuits.
I consulted with two separate marketing consultants who each have worked with many dog treat companies.
They both said I was substantially undercharging. They both said $20 for the half pound box.
My current profit margin was about 33% which, does not include any labor costs what-so-ever.
For the amount of effort, that $1.65 profit is in fact not sustainable.
Half pound represents about 2 lbs of turkey with my latest recipe.
So, I set a price point at $18.00 per half pound.
A quarter pound will be $10.
A full pound will be $32.00.

After much thought, I decided to make the boxes out of card stock.
I print them out, use razor hobby knife to cut the tabs.
My wife, grandkids and I fold and glue them together.
This takes a lot more time but, saves about two dollars per package sold.

  1. That’s pretty cool Jim! You really took the effort and I personally appreciate the savings. Like you said, $2 for just packaging is nuts. Printing these out and making them yourself helps you keep the price down! I know I appreciate that!
